Customers are saying

Customers commend this HP desktop for its excellent value and performance, particularly highlighting the ease of upgrading the RAM and the system's overall speed. However, some users express concerns regarding the limited power supply, which may restrict the addition of a high-performance graphics card, and the cooling system's adequacy. The BIOS's limited capabilities are also mentioned as a drawback by some customers.

Great Value! Super fast CPU Ryzen 7 4700G. I replaced the lone stick of 8GB RAM with a pair of 16GB RAM sticks for a total of 32GB. I used RAM from Team T-Create it was Classic 10 Layers 32GB (2x 16GB) 288 Pin DDR4 SDRAM 3200 PC4 25600. Make sure it is a JEDEC compliant chip and not XMP which I had no luck with. I also added a secondary Seagate 1TB Hard Drive for additional storage. This is an amazing value even at the moment with everything seeming to be expensive. I attached a screenshot of the PassMark rating I received after testing this PC with my setup. The 3D graphics are the weak link but still scored well enough to play lots of games. Not bad for an APU (Ryzen 7) with no dedicated video card. The one major downside is that the Power Supply is only rated at 180 watts which means that installing a good video card could be complicated since it will likely require upgrading the Power Supply unit as well and since it is an HP part you will be limited to their options unless you install a low power GPU. Overall, for the buck this is a great value!

It worked initially, I was able to setup account but at windows update, at startup monitor shuts down and monitor won't come up. I had to powerdown hard way hold power switch for few seconds, and pull the power plug out and hold power switch for 10 seconds and put the power cord back to proceed. At one time, it gave me error 90D ( thermal shutdown occured ). Another time it gave me, System Fan (90b) The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly. At one time, it started but, I was not able to turn wifi on, it had turned off wifi adapter. I tried to reset windows OS, it failed to reset but it started wifi adapter. When it was working, I tried to go to Netflix, even audio had problems. I am returning to to the store. HP Please test your product before sending it to the customer.

Passmark performance test show performance for CPU at 17000 1 dimm and 21000 2 dimms. With overall score 4000 and 5400 respectively. So get an extra stick. Pretty good value for the sale price. Purchased 2 Of these. One did get a 90D overheat and the fans were running full speed. But hwinfo64 showed CPU and gpu at really good levels. The normal unit showed fan speed at 600 rpm in the bios tool and the high fan speed unit showed 300 rpm. I eventually removed the bios battery and forced reset it. Then the fan speed was normal. Very limited bios and no bios images are available on the HP website. Makes me wonder if the sensor readings are being misread by the bios and the system is reporting overheating when it actually is not. Also at least for me CL16 memory would not work. System would lock. CL22 ran fine.

Some thoughts on this computer: Pros: Very Fast and responsive, smallish form factor, fairly quiet, affordable if on sale. Energy efficient. Two open Sata cables and Sata Power cables for 3.5" drive or Sata SSD. Cons: Locked bios won't allow you to change important settings needed to get the most out of the Ryzen 7. Some proprietary parts like custom Power Supply limit upgradeability. 180W power supply. DVD-ROM slot with no DVD drive included makes case look weird, almost feels like false advertising. Errors: Assembly is questionable - first powered on computer and received CPU fan error. Unscrewed and unhooked CPU cooler and reassembled and error went away and operated normally. I experienced the video not displaying on wake-up also. I believe this is some type of software error with HDMI encoding but I can't be sure. Final thoughts: If you're purchasing this PC because you want to watch Youtube videos and browse the web or perform Microsoft Office tasks, then you will have a great snappy experience. If you're purchasing this computer because you've seen reviews of the Ryzen 7 4700G online and you want the same experience in an affordable format, then you will be disappointed. With the BIOS locking the dedicated video ram to 512 MB, this computer performs worse than my 7 year old GTX 750 on graphical benchmarks and e-sport games.

A small, powerful box. Very limited expandability, (small power supply), but was able to stuff an 8TB drive and a GTX 1050Ti into the beastie. (Pushing it here, but had the 1050Ti already so... Testing power supply loading and it's holding up well.) Admittedly, they do provide the cabling in place for a 3.5" HDD and a laptop-style DVD/BluRay drive, a nice plus. Definitely add another stick of RAM, especially if using the integrated graphics. BIG improvement. Unless you're a hardcore gamer, the integrated graphics are rather good already. And the 8 core/16 threads. FAST! Only reason for the 4 stars is the limited power supply, like many prebuilts. Jack up the RAM, add a big HDD, and you can edit video like a pro.. A lot of performance for a good price.

Posting this review mainly so there are pictures for people to see. I thought I could add SSD via the m.2 slot. Only has 2 m.2 slots and they are both being used, one with the wifi (wouldn't fit an ssd the way it's arranged) and the other is taken up by the existing 256GB SSD. I'll have to send back the m.2 SSD I bought and purchase an SATA drive for expansion. There are SATA cables and a place to mount a 3.5" drive. However, if you are going to add a disc drive, then you will have to take out the mount for the hard drive and figure something else out. There's plenty of room for both an optical drive and a hard drive. I know at 180W you may need to consider the power available. I replaced the RAM with 2 matching Corsair sticks. Easy upgrade, seemed worth it for me. Just be sure to get DDR4 3200. VENGEANCE® LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 The computer benchmarks 3x faster than my old i5-4770, and whenever I can double my speed for under $500 I go ahead and buy a new PC. I'm not a PC gamer, but my kids love Roblox and it runs that without any apparent lag. I just run lots of tabs, spreadsheets, multiple programs, very minor video/photo editing, stuff like that. Works for me.

I got it for my dad back when it was on sale. The CPU and SSD alone would exceed the purchase price already. It would be a great non gaming machine that you buy and forget for a few years but if you are gaming then there are a couple issue on this machine: 1. The power supply is too small if you ever want to add a dedicated video card. It may work fine for this machine right now but it won't work with any reasonable add on card (i.e. 100W) 2. The integrated GPU of Ryzen like this, running at 2100MHz, need a lot of bandwidth, and this ship with only 1 stick (1 channel), and it would really handicap the machine for anything that will use it. A quick upgrade with 1 more matching stick would really help. I might have more to nit pick when I use it for longer but for this price and this target I think it is reasonable to expect some prebuild machines' limitation.

Let's start by saying I'm not up to date on all that's computers but I know basics. I know HP limited this computers potential because the 4700g is a decent chip. I upgraded this to 32gb ram. I use this for Studio One 4 and use synths such as Superior Drummer and Get Good Drums. I will say, plugins load instantly and the latency is minimal. For 450 dollars this a great deal. Installing a second hard drive in this is really complicated for what it is, took me a bit compared to my old desktop that was plug and play

I bought it used - excellent condition. Product arrived in excellent shape. BestBuy, I think, reinitiate the windows to HP original. It does not contain too much bloatware. I was planning to swap an older/cheaper Ryzen CPU and use the 4700G somewhere else. Unfortunately the cheap motherboard supports 4xxxG CPU only, so I have to use this as is. I upgraded it to 16GB (note: very few 8GB modules add on will allow the users to run it at 3200 speed; upgrade the SSD (note: the MB only support PCIE3.0 X2, so the bandwidth is limited). It runs business applications very well. But the internal GPU is very limited. Due to the limited power (180W), expansion potential is very limited. It would not be easy to upgrade either MB or the Power Supply as the connectors are proprietary. Assume the parts lasts, it is a very capable business machine at a bargain price. If you are a gamer or if you want to customize it, forget about it.

I purchased this HP Desktop with an AMD Ryzen 7 as I liked it motherboard. The AMD Ryzen 7 is superb. I removed the 256 GB SSD and replaced it with a 1 TB SSD. I also installed a 4TB HHD. I removed the 8 GB RAM and replaced it with 32 GB. I wish there had been room to have 64 GB of RAM. It runs excellently. It is fast and has room to store my thousands and thousands of photos and slides. I have plenty of room for use of Photoshop as well. It reminds me of my teenage years, in the 1960's, when I bought an automobile with a good frame, added "whatever" and turned it into a hot rod! GREAT DESKTOP.

Not a hardcore gamer, but play here and then. Mostly using it for school related works, browsing, light gaming, just the ordinary. Installed 32gb ram before I even turned on the desktop. Planning to order another ssd. For what it is, this is one of the best bang for buck right now. You could still run games although not at the highest settings.

You definitely need to add a 2nd stick of RAM to this machine. It makes a huge difference in performance. My FPS in games more than doubled after adding another 8GB RAM module. The CPU benchmark also went up by about 33%. These Ryzen APUs really like dual-channel so get a 2nd stick. PRO: Excellent CPU (actually an AMD APU) CON: Motherboard only provides 2 PCIe lanes (ver. 3.0) to the M.2 SSD thereby limiting it's performance. BIOS does not have a setting to set XMP for RAM. My 3200mhz 2x8GB kit runs at only 2166mhz. This board hamstrings the 4700G in several ways. Also the cooler they used is for a 45-watt CPU but should be for a 65-watt.

This HP model has a cpu with a igpu, so you don’t need a video card, but can add one as long as the video card pulls power from the motherboard. Not a lot of power to run a strong video card as the power supply is only 180 watts. Best thing to do is add another stick of ram of the same specs. Great budget workstation that can perform light gaming, just keep the settings modest.

This is a two part review. Part 1. The delivery option such as pick up at an alternate location is great. It deters porch pirates. Part 2. The HP computer is great. It is fast. I bought it to do video rendering and editing. The SSD is quite capable of handling most of my programs such as MS Office and Corel Video Studio. I have 1 GB internet and download and speed test are limited by source or traffic. Finally, the CPU Ryzen 7 4700 in this computer is worth $450 on the resale market. I got great deal at the purchase price of $450.

I bought this computer to replace a computer that is 7 years old. The migration of data to this one has not been without challenge but that is not the fault of this computer. I have noticed a definite increase in speed. I am a casual user in that I am not a gamer and I use the computer for E-mail and light web surfing. This computer is more than adequate for my needs. I have owned HP's for years. Most of the computers I have have been HP's. I am concerned about the size of the SSD but as I have several external Hard drives I feel confident that I will not have any storage problems. There are two problems that I can think of at this time. Both of these are really minor. Number 1 is that the power on button is rather small compared to the one computer I had before and 2 I do not see a light indicating SSD access. As I say both of these are minor.

Great processor on this prebuilt, which is why I purchased it. Best Buy had this on sale for 60% off after Christmas and I managed to snag one. I was hoping that there was upgrade potential but sadly it uses a proprietary power connector and power supply so that nixed any hopes of beefing up the power and adding a graphics card. The Ryzen 7 4700G ,SSD, and Ram are happy in a MSI b550 in a custom case though.
