The Intel i3 is a 4 core processor, much more powerful than the Core Duo which is only 2 processors, you will notice a measurable amount of change and speed. Newer technologies in Intel has also added more security features in the processor for protection against online viruses and executable codes that can damage your whole system. Of course adding a video graphics card (an upgrade if you can put one in) to any PC is always a better option to get your PC running faster, those of Nvidia or AMD will work perfect. But bottom line, the Intel i3 Core is extremely faster than a Core Duo. Benchmarks are online, just look them up, you'll see the difference...
