• a charger comes with the unit, no it does not take batteries.

• It came with an AC adapter and It has a built in rechargeable battery. Can't use any other batteries.

• This unit has its own, built in, rechargeable battery. The battery provides 2.5 hours of use on a full charge. I do not know of a portable charger that will allow you to connect this portable DVD to.
