It is a little hard to vacuum carpeting because the suction is so great, which is one of the things I like about it the most because I have a German Shepherd and two cats that shed a lot! If it gets too hard to push on the carpeting I just reach down and grab the handle that holds the canister and give it a little lift which helps. My carpeting is Berber, and I also am a senior citizen, if that’s any help at all. It is also easy to empty the canister and I am still very pleased with my purchase!

It seriously works as well as the elite top name brands, and turns and maneuvers as much as a ball-style Dyson, but much more easily because it's so lightweight. It's moves around furniture legs so easily. If it is hard to push at all for you, it would have to be credited to, in my opinion, the strength of the suction and the style of the carpet (longer or looser knit ones). I've considered this vac for my elderly family and friends, because it is SO easy to carry and store, as it's small and lightweight. It pushes easily for me on medium carpets, and I'm 53 with bad wrists. Just make sure you keep these bagless vacs, emptied and their filters clean, and they will work like new every time. I love this vacuum, and would definitely recommend it for any age, any task.
