“Are there similar cables that have both a red & white connector? If yes, would they allow sound to come out of two (or more) speakers? I bought this to connect my laptop to my 5.1 channel home theater only to find sound only coming out of one speaker.”

Why would you want red and white? That is usually a stereo (set) of cables to designate left and right channels. This application SPLITS one channel (either left or right) so that you can send it to 2 different units such as an audio amplifier (receiver) and CD recorder. It will never come out of 2 speakers, unless you set the amplifier to MONO mode.
