Once set up the opener and phone do not have to be on the same 2.4 GHz WiFi.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The iPhone app takes care of handling the interaction with the device. In order to get the device set up the phone, HomeKit hub (iPad, Apple TV or HomePod) and Insignia controller need to be on the same network. Your iPhone will talk to your home hub and your hub will talk to the controller.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You don’t need to be on the same network to control the device after it’s been setup, but you do need to be while you’re in the process of setting it up. I.e. when you’re adding the device to your home network, the phone you’re using needs to be on that network.

So for example, you could use Apple TV or the Apple Pod as your HomeHub. It’ll always be in the house, and left so that it’s on the same network as the garage controller. You will then be able to not only receive the notifications anywhere, but you can open and close your garage from anywhere. Hope this helps!!!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As I understand it, this comment in the instructions applies to the initial setup only. Once completely installed, your phone will no longer need to be on that same network to monitor or to open/close the door. You will be able to receive remote notifications anywhere that you have access to your HomeKit app. At least, this is how mine works. I have had two of these units for about 3 weeks and both are running very well.
