• Not necessarily. The controller works like wired opener, connecting to the same terminals on your opener as a wired unit would. You would need those connection points, but would not need to be using them for anything else at present.

• This device has two “wired connections” to enable functionality. One pair goes to the garage door motor control, with the other being standard power plug. Once connected, it provides wireless remote control of your garage door using wi-fi rather than radio signals. Hope this helps.
