I have found that the smart devices work better on the 3G portion of the router - as it has a stronger signal. The 5G is good for movies, streaming videos and some games, but your smart home tech works just fine at the slower speed with no noticeable difference in it's performance. So save your 5G for your movies/videos and games. Put all your smart home devices to the 3G and it should all connect better. They made the devices from so many different manufacturers that they went with the 3G platform as a basis as it is more widely available. If you have one device that only works on that 3G, then you cannot connect it to the 5G, thus you will either have to have 2 smart home networks (a 3G one and a 5G one) and have to remember which device is on which network or go to the 3G to connect it all together. The only way to make sure all your devices are compatible is to use the more stable 3G platform. What they don't tell you when they sell you the 5G is that now you have to upgrade (ie replace) any and all devices that were never made with the 5G platform in mind.
