I originally had the same issue. After trying several times I realized that instead of using my BestBuy.com account log in I was using mybestbuy.com log in. After using the bestbuy.com log in I was able to fully connect. It gets confusing having similar accounts but it is your bestbuy.com account that links to the Insignia Smart Plug. I hope I haven't confused you and do hope this helps. If it still fails to work contact Insignia, they can help and you my have to re-set your plug per the instructions to cancel any stored information in the plug itself. That can also cause connection issues.
