• Hi Jim, A lot depends on how old your Dell Optiplex 3040 is? If it already has a 8th or 9th generation Intel Core processor then you should have no problem installing the Intel Core I3-9100 as they should share the same LGA 1151 socket. If you Dell system has an older processor unfortunately it will not be compatible since the motherboard will have a different processor socket. Thank you for choosing Intel.
