Yes you can! I use Iphone 12 pro, I had to download an app 'i-flashdevice' to access sd card documents. This application helped me manage storage of the connected SD card and play songs from the card.

The specifications state it is used for data transfer so we will need to reach out to the engineers to properly answer your question.
