- Answer Yes. Power is run to the base. The camera is attached with magnets and power pins to the base. Easy to remove and reattach.

QuestionDoes my dvr-a301w have to be plugged into 12 volts to power on? If it has a internal batt how do I charge it? It has been used for a long time but has to be plugged into 12 volt anything to work.

- Answer I use the 12 volt for power and my sister plugs hers into a USB port. I don’t believe it has an internal battery.

QuestionDoes this Kenwood DRV-A301W Dash Cam have the capability of working from a stopped position? If I am parked with the vehicle on, can I the unit recording be turned on and off at will...say like for documenting a specific activity?

QuestionMy new unit doesn’t pick up GPS signal, the icon just flashes. Also, I first tried plugging the power cord into the magnetic base / GPS, but the unit did not work. When plugged into the camera itself it powered up and worked, but no GPS. Any ideas?

- Answer The magnetic base has a clip. Push until you hear it click. Now the GPS power is activated. It may take a fee mins for the GPS to locate a signal.

QuestionWhy exactly does the car fit guide say this device does not fit a 2007 Prius? It can't be any different than any other small car.

- Answer It must have been a data entry error. I just checked and it now shows compatibility for both the standard and JBL systems. This is actually a self installed model with a DC power port and suction cup mount.

- Answer Yes, but the camera loops the video so as long as you have a computer/laptop with an SD card slot you can just delete the protected videos.

QuestionIn what file type are the movies recorded? Example, MP4, .MOV, etc? I want to be able to remove the card & download movies onto my windows laptop & don't want compatibility issues with proprietary file types which I have run in to with other dashcams.
