Home theater subwoofers come with their own amplifiers built in. You could use it but you would need an amplifier for home theater not car stereo. It would be a lot more complicated to wire. Probably it would be easier to remove the subwoofer out of the box and install it in the home theater box. Honestly I would not recommend car subs for home use anyway because of the many wiring complications.

The OHM load is to low for home receivers and amps and you would have to power it some how because there's no internal amplification. Plus you would need an external crossover. So without a lot of rigging then no this would be car audio only.
