5.1 surround consists of Two fronts (R/L), Two Rear (R/L) and a Center Channel = 5 Speakers. The "point 1" is the subwoofer. Now that we are on the same page on what a 5,1 config consists of, the Two speakers up front would be primary Right and Left. If you currently have a 5.1 set-up and place these up front up top, then yes these will work great as front heights. This would essentially move you to a 5,2,1 solution at that point. If you are asking if these speakers would work for front left and front right - the answer is they will produce sound, no they are not idea as Front R/L Main. Yes on heights, no for mains. Hope that helps. Floor standing speakers are going to be the best option for front left and right mains, solid bookshelfs could be utilized as well with a good subwoofer with front mains. These speakers do not handle the range or the wattage a solid set of FS speakers would handle and be able to produce. These speakers will work great for rear surrounds, rear height surround, side surround, or Atmos height front or rear. These are not good for front main speakers.
