• First of all, these are absolutely great sounding speakers. But, as you stated, they need to be connected to an external amplifier or receiver capable of driving an 8 ohm load. A receiver will add the option of adding a center channel and maybe a sub for a much fuller sound. If you are looking for something to connect directly to the TV, I might suggest a high quality sound bar with a sub.

• The R-51M are passive, non-powered speakers that will need to be connected to a receiver/amplifier that supplies close to 85 Watts per channel at 8 Ohms.
