• LeapPad Ultra XDi includes 11 apps with your choice of one free app. There are also free games available through the LeapSearch app when connected to WiFi. All other apps and cartridges are sold separately.

• There are some apps on the device already, such as music, painting, picture editing, an animal game, can't remember what else, and ours came with a choice of one free app with 3 options (game, book and something else I can't remember).

• The are one or two games on the device itself. So yes, you must purchase the cartridges.
