Yes, I went back to school after 40 years and I just love my laptop.

It is good for Microsoft Office type projects, light online browsing/research, social media. If this is the type of usage and work that the student will be doing, then yes, this would be a good choice for a college student. Also, check with the school that the student will be attending, they should provide some guideline as to the type and configuration of computer that will be necessary.

As a student, you need at least a 15-inch screen because you'll spend so many hours researching, typing and working on projects. With a screen this small you'll get eye strain quickly. This laptop is too small for extended use and too slow to run more than one program at a time. For example, this laptop is not meant to run a web browser with multiple tabs and Microsoft Office at the same time. This laptop would be great for non-students interested in light web browsing or reading email, but not at the same time.
