Are both USB ports backward compatible or just one null

There are only two USB ports. One 3.0 and one (c) so according to brand answers only one is backward compatible!

The two standard USB 3.0 ports are backward compatible to earlier USB versions that are compatible with Windows 10. There is also one USB-c port on the device that is not backward compatible.
