12, one 4g stick is soldered to the motherboard. Discovered AFTER Best Buy employees from floor, chat and Geek Squad all said 16. Specifications still state 16g. Why is unknown.

Technically, the configuration support 16GB of RAM, but 4GB of the RAM is soldered to the motherboard so it is not removable/upgradable. There is only one open slot, so practically, you can only upgrade to 12GB.
