I had a similar problem and had to add an older range extender that I used in another situation a few years ago. One thing I would not advise is to buy a cheap dongle type extender or repeater type WiFi extender unless you are familiar with its track record for the job you need it to do. They have a propensity to over heat, cause connection problems, and last only a year or two before the heat problem becomes terminal. A friend had this type of problem and chose to go with the cheapie dongle instead of a higher level mid-distance plug in extender. Within about a year, he was asking what model of extender I bought and, after a little "rub it in" kidding, I had him fixed up with the same model I have and he was pleased. The dongle set him back about $20 and the NetGear extender cost another $40 or so, so he learned a valuable lesson for a minimal investment in the "education". I have added the make and model which I have used in a couple of different situations involving multilevel floors and walls interfering with the router signal.
