  • QuestionLooking for a microphone to use in a classroom, so student voices are amplified to their live audience. Would this be a good fit?

    Asked by DJ.

    • Answer The lewett mip550dm would be an excellent choice for use in a classroom. It has very low proximity effect, which is muddy and boomy sound created when one is too close too the mic (generally, one should be 1-2” away when using a mic or intelligibility suffers). It has very low handling noise and so can be. Hand held rather than requiring a stand. Therefore it’s an excellent mic for those who don’t have good microphone use techniques. It’s very clear an natural sound is better than the ubiquitous industry standard Sure SM58, while retaining the ruggedness the SM58 is famous for. I don’t know of a better mic than the mtp550 for less than twice the price. Mine has had extensive use since I bought it for the lead singer in my professional rock band and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
