Yes, you can vent outside, roof or back wall. Just review the LG installation manual. Those who say you can't don't know what they are talking about, including the LG answer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. It can vent out the front, out the back, or upward. To change the vent direction, you remove two screws, rotate the blower to the desired direction, and replace the two screws. Re-routing the wires to prevent pinching them was a little troubling and instructions for this are not very clear.

Over-the-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel, Model # LMVM2033ST, has a built-in feature for automatic fan operation known as Auto Vent which helps to dissipate the heat from your cooktop. When the microwave senses an increase in heat from your cooktop below, it automatically turns on the vent fan to create a safer environment for you. This unit has a scrolling-text display which will let you know that the surface below may be hot (Careful Hot Surface) during Auto Vent Operation. The Vent Fan cannot be manually shut off during this operation and it will shut off once it determines that the area beneath it has reached a safe temperature. The microwave does not come with an option to vent to the outside...IFV
