• Mine doesn’t have black bars. You may have the aspect ratio set wrong

• The bars can be removed for select broadcast. Standard definition (4:3 aspect ratio) programming will have bars unless you use the zoom feature. High definition programming with an aspect ratio of 16:9 will be full screen. Aspect ratio can be adjusted in the settings menu; Picture > Aspect Ratio > User Selection.
