About 51 inches w the door opened in the side swing position and about 40 inches if the door is opened in the downswing option. This still leaves plenty of space to load your clothes. (This model has the ability to open the door two different ways all the time. It can open w a side swing from the left or right side and you tell them which side swing you’d like AND it can open straight down. Using the down position can only go about 25 degrees, not the full 45 degrees, but plenty of room to load).

It doesn’t open quite as far when pulling the door but still plenty of room to throw your clothes in. Hope that makes sense.
