Yes it is plug and play but it may require you to install the necessary drivers for the device. That is correct that your computer most likely has no native support which is why you need to buy the external drive and update your drivers in order to give your computer the support for Blu-Ray. Same goes for netbooks, ultrabooks, Macbooks, etc.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Plug it into Windows 7...let the burner load the software, then insert the supplied Cyberlink disc into the burner and let it load the programs. Do not remove any of your existing programs even if the install process tells you otherwise. Burning software is also on the supplied disc..I believe it is called "Power Director" Everything you need is in the box. A great product. You will need to have a HD monitor and the video card that meets the requirements to support HD content..."Works as advertised"
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All cables included: eSATA, USB, power supply/cord, plus an eSATA bay that you can install in the back of your PC, if you don't have eSATA socket. My Win7 x64 recognized it without a glitch, so I assume Home Premium would do the same. It's really a plug and play device, and a pleasure to use. I used Nero for DVD and DVDFab for blu ray. "ImgBurn" is also a great burner solution for blu rays, and it's for free.
