Works great with no failures so far. Easy to use just plug it in and your set to go with a very nice unit.

Works for what I need

I have not burned any discs, but the reading for playback or ripping is fast with e-sata. The e-sata cord is very short. The housing is very long - about 12", so it will not fit everywhere, but has a flat top, so you could stack other items on top. Nice looking.

First I didn't expected this driver to be this big. Maybe when we think of disc drivers these days we get that picture of a slim square that's the size of the disc itself.... it isn't the case here.. However, it's very very efficient! I tried playing a blu-ray movie, no problems at all, it was even better than playing an HD movie from a hard drive... I primarily got this for backing up my photo libraries as I'm an amateur photographer, and right now I'm burning the second disc. The process is very easy and smooth, the burning is fast although I'm not using its full speed, just to make sure the writing process goes perfectly. It's so quite that if not for the blinking light I'd think that it isn't running! haven't seen any driver like this before! The biggest downside is that LG doesn't support Mac OS with this driver, it will mount and show you the contents but you can't burn/play anything if you don't have 3rd party applications. I use VLC for watching and Toast for burning.

Finally a great drive that doesn't cost a fortune! Installation was a breeze, Win7 x64 recognized it without any problem. Its speed is amazing and it's very quiet. Size-wise it's pretty big, but that's not a problem, the drive can hold another burner on the top with a 2T external HD. I've tested it with all kinds of discs (DVD and BD mixed), and worked like a charm. Nice touch that it comes with a 25GB Verbatim blank blu ray disc. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is: you will not regret having this one. The included software isn't great, but I didn't care, I was more interested in a good drive, and I got it!

Great burner for PC but not Mac

This is a great burner just wished had a better support for Mac. Although LG clearly says that this is PC drive but works with Mac too. Of course there is no support for Mac so you are on your own. So far so good with my Mac Pro late 2010. On and off switch in the back is hard to reach!
In Mac case, drive prevents computer to go to sleep. I don't have eSata on my Mac so I use it with USB wire included. Over all very nice drive and has not burned bad DVD yet, lightscribe works too but I have not been that impressed.

This is an excellent external blu-ray player. No problems watching blu-ray movies after 2 weeks of use. It also comes with a blu-ray compatible software so no worries if you don't have a software for blu-ray playback.
I was told that the included software will not let you rip movies to the PC. This is unfortunate but I found external softwares and they work perfectly fine with this drive. I can now watch my blu-ray movies on my ipad, iphone, PSV, PS3, and X360 in digital form.
The unit itself is designed well. Looks clean and the power button is very useful. However, the eject button being underneath the open disc tray makes it difficult to touch the button when the tray is open.
Lastly, this drive doesn't recognize HD-DVD's. My HD-DVD player no longer works and I would have loved to be able to watch them on my PC.

have an asus u50 laptop window7, software took 7min to install
my videos totaled 22gigs, it burned around 25 mins, thats roughly about 1 minute per 1 gig of data. i like the touch button to eject the tray.
i want to make a copy of the superbowl that i recorded on laptop using a pinnacle tv tuner, it totaled 27gigs. the blank dual layer disc cost about 87.00 for 5 blanks, kinda expensive will wait for a sale. Looks great on HD.

This burner delivers. It was extremely easy to install and even came with an eSata card. The software is good but I upgraded to a newer version almost immediately at a cost of about $45. I've burned several Blurays and DVDs without any problems.
A:AnswerYes it is plug and play but it may require you to install the necessary drivers for the device. That is correct that your computer most likely has no native support which is why you need to buy the external drive and update your drivers in order to give your computer the support for Blu-Ray. Same goes for netbooks, ultrabooks, Macbooks, etc.
