Q: QuestionSelf cleaning drain / filterDoes this model have a self cleaning filter for food particles / pieces or do you have to hand remove a filter and dump out trapped food, etc.

Q: Questiondoes it have very strong smell when new and for how long?When new, does this dishwasher have a strong chemical, plastic, or rubber type smell for the first several uses and if so how long did it take for the smell to fade? We have a young child wIth asthma and have to be very careful because new products like this can sometimes give her troubles. Would appreciate as many responses as possible. Thanks!

• A:Answer We definitely understand your concern with the chemical, plastic or rubber smells associated with new products and especially in your case where they can be bothersome to an asthmatic child. However, the intensity of the smells or how long they will take to dissipate will vary from one person to the next because environmental conditions that affect that will vary. How you use the LG - SteamDishwasher 24" Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher - Stainless-Steel, Model # LDF8874ST will also determine what the intensity of the smells will be like and how long it takes to fade because water temperatures will vary. As a suggestion, if you are able to visit a Best Buy that has this model on display, being familiar with what intensity of smell would be likely to bother your child, you may want to look it over although that by itself does not guarantee that every unit will be the same, but at least will give you some idea. The intensity of the smells and how long they take to fade is something that cannot be duplicated and you may find that one unit smells a little stronger than another or that the smell from one unit takes longer to fade compared to another. Regrettably, there's just no way of predicting this...^IFV

Q: QuestionDoes this dishwasher heat water for all cycles?I have a gas tankless water heater. My Bosch DW runs longer cycles because the water temp starts cold (and it doesn't have water heating at all). Even when we start with hot water running there the cycle takes forever.

• A:Answer Yes, there is a water heater, and it has the ability to create steam. Any of the steam cycles will heat the water so dried on food will soften before washing. Most cycles, but not all, are steam cycles. The cycles, however, can run for a considerable amount of time, depending on which combination of cycles you choose. For instance, if I run the longest cycle (i.e., a heavy cycle, which is also a steam cycle, and extra drying time), the dishwasher will run for nearly 3 hours and 45 minutes. But, the length of time the dishwasher will run depends on the particular cycle(s) you choose.

Q: QuestionI purchased this dishwasher in February 2015. Disappointed now that the detergent trap will not open during cleaning cycles. It stays stuck shut and the dishes do not get clean. Is there a way to repair or replace this piece?

They may be some disassembly required depending on which part is broken in the dispenser. If a dispenser part is broken and you don't want to disassemble the detergent dispenser to replace the part, you can replace the entire dispenser. Although not likely, it could also be that you have a faulty main control board. The main control board provides power to nearly every component of the dishwasher. If there is a problem with the main control board, it might not send voltage to the detergent dispenser, preventing the dispenser from opening. Q: QuestionI bought my LG in 2010. Now the HE signal (heater malfunction??) is appearing. If we run a load of dishes, the cycle keeps running and does not stop automatically. Do you recommend I get this fixed - it is not that old, or do I purchase a new one?

• A:Answer The "HE" error code on your LG LG - SteamDishwasher 24" Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher with Stainless Steel Tub - Stainless Steel, Model # LDF8874ST indicates that it has sensed a heater error. Normally, this error can occur if the dishwasher is unable to heat the water or if the water was overheated. It can be corrected by pressing the power button to turn the dishwasher off then turning the circuit breaker to the dishwasher off and waiting 10 seconds. After that wait, turn the circuit breaker back on and the press the power button to turn the unit back on. If the "HE" error code persists, then the washer will require a repair service. The dishwasher will need to be inspected and the technician will be able to give you an estimate for the cost of the repair and you can decide then if you want to repair it or if you would rather purchase a new unit...^IFV

Q: QuestionIs this model true to scale? My opening is 33. 1/2 but due to a tile floor the measurement becomes 33 1/4. Should an installer be able to install in an opening this size? He is here and says its impossible

Q: QuestionThe LED lights on the front of the door can be informative and neat, but they are very bright, almost blinding when they are on. Is there anyway to turn these off or possibly dim them down? I might be nitpicking but they illuminate my entire kitchen.
