We definitely understand your concern with the chemical, plastic or rubber smells associated with new products and especially in your case where they can be bothersome to an asthmatic child. However, the intensity of the smells or how long they will take to dissipate will vary from one person to the next because environmental conditions that affect that will vary. How you use the LG - SteamDishwasher 24" Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher - Stainless-Steel, Model # LDF8874ST will also determine what the intensity of the smells will be like and how long it takes to fade because water temperatures will vary. As a suggestion, if you are able to visit a Best Buy that has this model on display, being familiar with what intensity of smell would be likely to bother your child, you may want to look it over although that by itself does not guarantee that every unit will be the same, but at least will give you some idea. The intensity of the smells and how long they take to fade is something that cannot be duplicated and you may find that one unit smells a little stronger than another or that the smell from one unit takes longer to fade compared to another. Regrettably, there's just no way of predicting this...^IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, there was some outgassing at first, a rather strong plastic-type smell. Ours is nearly a month old, and yes, it still has a plastic smell when running, although less than it was when new. Not that all asthma is the same, but I also have asthma, and it does not bother me. Children, however, are more sensitive since their lungs are not fully developed. We have run the dishwasher about five times, and the smell is still noticeable while running. For this reason, I can't really comment on when the smell will completely dissipate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I didn't notice any smell
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I did not notice any smell whatsoever. It is a completely stainless tub, though, so I wouldn't have expected it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It did have a rubber type oder, but faded after maybe 2-3 wash cycles. Was noticed in drying cycle only. Was not an issue with us.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Although it's not as strong as it was when we first bought it, ours still has a hot plastic smell after 6 months. It can't be smelled outside the kitchen but is quite strong when nearby.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No plastic smell was associated with mine what so ever. I wonder if you had a bad dishwasher or bad install.
