Most IOT use 2.4 Ghz WiFi, if it sees it, it will use it. a 2.4 Ghz device will not see the 5 Ghz.

It will connect to the network that the phone you're using to setup the lights is connected to. From their website it seems that currently only the 2.4GHz band is supported so just make sure the phone you're using to setup the lights is connected to that network and then it should work without issue.
