QuestionI'm am ignorant when it comes to technology. I finally left cable and figured out roku and sling. I only use time warner for internet and want to get rid of it. If I purchase this, will I be able to drop time warner completely. Many thanks.

- Answer No you won't be able to drop your internet. These are Wi-Fi routers. You have a modem in your house that brings internet into your home. So when you use Time Warner they are delivering the internet through a modem. Only the modem actually has internet. In order for the whole house to have internet you need a Wi-Fi router attached to the modem. That is what this product is, it attaches to your modem and makes the Wi-Fi a wireless connection of internet that is now available throughout your house. Without the wireless connection you can probably only have internet on one device at a time which would be the device directly plugged into the time Warner modem. This product is good because it extends the range of the wireless throughout your house because it has 2 towers. One that plugs directly into your modem. The other tower you plug in for power and it bounces of the signal wirelessly. So keep the time Warner or get different internet.

- Answer Yes it does, but you have to configure the system initially with only one wired "parent" node, and two wireless "child nodes. Once they are connected and talking to each other, you can connect them to a wired Ethernet connection. If you try to wire them first, you will confuse the system and it won't work.

QuestionI don't think the following statement is correct "Each access point provides a maximum data transfer speed of up to 6600 Mbps" I think collectively all the routers/access points have that much throughput but not an individual one.

- Answer You are exactly correct. 6600 Mbps is a misrepresentation by 3 X 2200 Mbps. I personally saw a max speed of 348Mbps. Please read my review; this router is incompatible with select devices, including BAS Fans & Lights, as well as DropCam Pro (Nest Cam).

QuestionI purchased the 3 pack and am still seeing my old wifi names for my 2.4g and 5g, do I need to disconnect the wifi router from my modem in order to get rid of those? Is there any benefit to keeping those?Will this carry outdoors as well, my home is 2400sf

- Answer This carries very well outside. It has band forming technology which means the signal goes around corners as well as through walls better than older tech. You would have to disconnect your old WiFi to get rid of it. If you have a router modem combo you could turn off that router and plug these into the LAN connection. That would give you the best signal option. Do not try to use these as WAP as it will diminish signal and speed.

QuestionI recently switched to Spectrum to take advantage of higher speed. Close to the Modem/Router is fine, however 40 feet away my speed drops 70% and Smart TV apps don't work well. How far apart can the nodes be reasonably placed from the first unit?

- Answer I had one node downstairs and a second node on the second floor and they saw and talked with each other fine. The signal upstairs fluctuated between 4 and 5 bars with the second node installed, which surprised me. I expected 5 bars as the node was 3-4 feet away from the smartphone I was using. That phone showed a solid 4 bars for the original node before I connected the second one. Check for interference where the first node is installed. Make sure it is "out in the open" as Linksys recommends, rather than buried behind other things. The app also has an advanced setting (sorry, I stumbled on it while experimenting and do not remember where it is) that will examine the network and adjust the channels the nodes are using, if needed, to optimize the signal. Personally, I was surprised that was necessary as I presumed te setup process would have already done that.

- Answer No, the first node needs an Ethernet connection to your modem/router. The other nodes are wireless, they just need an electrical outlet.

QuestionI need 4 or 5 Ethernet connections at the base. How would The Velop support this. Would I need a switch in addition to the Velop system.

- Answer Yes you would need to set up the Velop network first. Then get a switch and attach it to your base unit. DO NOT attach the switch to it till the Velop network is setup. It will cause problems. I ran into this issue with mine. Once I disconnected the switch everything on Velop connected and then I went back and plugged in switch. Everything works as it should now.

- Answer I got it to work after much experimenting: 1. Reset all of your Velop Nodes by pushing the reset button for 10 seconds. 2. Run Setup for one node. 3. Once it is set up, go to your ATT gateway's (Mine is a BGW210) Home Network/IP Allocation tab. 4. Find you Velop node and click on allocate. 5. Go to the Firewall/IP Passthrough Tab 6. Change Passthrough Mode to DHCPS-fixed. 7. Choose you Velop from the Device List. (It will populate the Manual Entry Field) 8. Set the Passthrough DHCP Lease. I set mine to the maximum allowed: 99:0:0:0 9. Add your other Velop nodes. 10. Turn off the gateway's wireless channels. You have to do each one separately.

QuestionI have century link for my internet. The speed is very slow not high speed at all. If in other rooms then the router you have even slower speeds and buffering. Will this help increase my speed and other problems

- Answer It could. I would recommend that you test the speed by plugging a laptop directly to your century link router. Do a speed test, then you know what the internet speed would be with out any loss in speed due to your WIFI network. After you do that, do the same speediest on the same laptop using a WIFI network in the areas that are bad for you. It is a good way to know if it is your network or your internet provider that is creating the issue. It sounds as though you are losing a lot of signal due to walls and other things that maybe weakening your signal in your house. Velop should help with that.

- Answer No need to plug into a switch. All it needs is power. Place it in where you dont get a good signal and connect it to your existing mesh router via the app. Thats all you need to do. Was super simple.

QuestionDoes this increase the Wifi speed at all. We wanted to go to ATT but they only offer low speed in our area, not enough to stream. Wondered if this would help with streaming?

- Answer Yes-ish. The system can’t improve the top end of you ISP. I.E if they say your internet speed is 100 mbps, it can’t make it 200. But if your advertised speed IS 100 mbps, that’s a perfect storm of hardwired devices. Any WiFi performance is likely yo be lower. But a higher quality router can reduce the amount of loss. My internet is 1gig fiber to the door which is EXTREMELY fast, however my WiFi performance was stuck around 200 mbps up and down. When I switched to velop, it’s consistently above 700 up and down which is more than enough to stream. This system is phenomenal!

- Answer Per Linksys, because it uses a Tri-Band frequency, one of the bands is setup as a dedicated source of communication between all units (whether you have 2, 3, or more units) while the other two bands are open to communicate to your device(s). On wireless repeaters, repeaters usually only have 1-2 frequencies which limits the speed (halves it in most cases) which causes your significant decrease in download speed.

QuestionHow well will this work in a 3000 sq. ft. two story home with ATT fiber1000 and ATT TV. I have a BGW210-700 Modem and Arris VAP2500 Router. WiFi in certain spots upstairs is spotty at best now. Looking for best way to improve.

- Answer It will definitely improve. I also have att and the router they leased. I am having issues with my internet but this will help your dead spots. Only thing is what ever you have connected to your att router WiFi will probably need to be set up to these like printers, sound systems TVs

- Answer Every answer in this thread is categorically wrong. If you have an existing Wi-Fi gateway/Router and you want to KEEP the OLD gateway but use the velop for ONLY Mesh Wi-Fi, you can do that. Simply connect the first velop node to your existing network using an ethernet cable. Follow all the initial setup steps with the linksys app. Once the first node is completely setup, go to advanced settings and change the route mode to "Bridge". This will disable all the services like DHCP and firewall on the Velop and make the velop mesh network appear on the same network as your existing hardwired devices. I recommend not using the same SSID (network name) for both your old router and your velop mesh network. If you want to use the same SSID, then just disable the wireless on your OLD router after setting up the velop.

QuestionMy home is 2600 sf and my gateway is in the master BR, but my office is at the opposite corner of the house with walls and stairs between. I get 300mbps in the BR, but barely 10mbps in the office. Tried range extenders, no luck. Will this really help?

- Answer I tried a range extender also. Waste of money, right. Just got the Velop and I am really impressed. Needed to get out to my shed to control a wifi light switch. No problem with Velop. Have 3 stories including the basement. Put the first node next to my modem on ground level, the second node in a basement window facing my shed and the third node in my office on the second floor. Full reception in every room and I could stream in my shed if I wanted to. You will not be sorry!
