I think there's some pretty good free language apps where you can easily switch back and forth between different languages, I got one so my Thai wife could type in her language.

What you have to do is enable the international keyboard in the settings of your iPad. But for this to really work well you have to kind of memorize the layout of that international keyboard. For example, if I want to type using the Spanish keyboard, I have to remember that the apostrophe/quotation mark key is pressed before pressing a vowel to get the accentuated character. I don't know how it works for French. Don't forget that you have to change between the French and English keyboard using the little globe icon on the touch keyboard or on the bluetooth keyboard you hold down the command key and press space. You have to be using the French keyboard for the accentuated characters to appear.
