A:Answer Yes, these speakers each need to be plugged into a power source. I love these for music and for movies and placement was actually more forgiving than other speakers I have tried. The only weak point so far is voices during movies. They are ok. Most towers benefit from a center channel speaker and these are in that group. Musically though, these have air and space and clarity. These are keepers in my house.
