THis machine has a sensing cycle where it senses the amount of clothes you put it and then adds water accordingly. Awesome feature to save water! Its rated at 5.9 Gal per wash, so if its a 3.4 Cubic Feet your are looking at about 1.7 Gal per cubit foot though it is not measured this way.

Average gallons of water used will vary depending on the following variables: load sensing capabilities of the unit, specific wash cycle utilized, water temperature, load size, water pressure, soil amount, whether the fabric softener is on/off, how the clothes redistribute during the cycle, etc. We appreciate your interest in Maytag appliances!
