Can you use powdered detergent in this washer null

Yes as long as it is H E (high efficiency) detergent.

You can 'put in' whatever you desire, but the manufacturer recommends only using HE detergent. Best for energy and sudsing and will give max wash action for the newer machines, or so they say.

Maytag (ie, Whirlpool) recommends only HE detergent to conform to energy and sudsing requirements. Also it may wash better with the HE soaps.
