A:Answer Liquid detergent works just fine. But it's taken a while for my wife to get used to just dumping it in. Our last unit had a little drawer that you filled, which is nice, but the drain hole got clogged occasionally. We talked to a Whirlpool service rep while we were shopping (Maytag is made by Whirlpool), and he convinced my wife to stop using so much detergent. His point was, if you see suds, you're using too much.
