“Just purchased two of these. Hooked them up to my xbox one controllers and the mic is not working on either headset or either xbox (we have 2). Do these have to be used with a Smart TV? So confused at this point. We have tried the different settings”

You have to go to the setting on your Xbox to where you see the sound and headset configuration and where you can hear sound.
