It depends. Are you planning to do alot of solid state modelling or 3D rendering? If so, you should find a with a better graphics card. This Surface device has an entry-level graphics system, so if you're going to be designing complicated parts in 3D and rotating them around, shading them, etc - find a different laptop. If you plan on just doing 2 dimensional work - I think this laptop would be fine. The Memory, Processor and Disk are good - it's more about the requirements of your Engineering software package.
