Gold can be used on the primary Xbox using any Gamer ID. The same Gold can only be used on the other Xbox using the Gamer ID of the person who purchased the Gold membership. You can actually play with each other as long as the person using the Primary Xbox is using a different Gamer ID and the person using the other Xbox is using the Gamer ID that purchased the Gold membership. However, you cannot use the same Gamer ID on both Xboxes at the same time. In other words, if you go with just one Gold membership it is a little complicated but doable.
