This gateway is 802.11N, single band. 802.11ac is dual band, both 2.4G and 5G, which provides a bunch more bandwidth. This is a gateway, router and modem in one box. Dual band routers are usually the router only--you would need a modem preceeding the router to do the same thing that this gateway does, but your potential download speeds would be quite a bit faster. It all depends on what you're going to use it for, whether you actually need those speeds. If all you're doing is surfing the internet, this is all you need. It will easily stream a movie, even a hi-def movie if you service provider can provide the bandwidth. This gateway will be sufficient for most users, but if you're in a highly congested area or have several family members online at the same time you might want to look at faster options. Upgrading the service from your ISP is more important than the abilities of the router for most people.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, it does not have 802.11ac compatibility. 802.11n is good enough for this application.
