“Detached garage with MIL unit above with son moving into soon and want to avoid 2nd internet bill. Approx 125 ft from 2nd floor cable modem/router. Has anyone setup something similar successfully? Any recommendations on setup?”

Yes put your router in center of house and put your points in a roll heading to your point where you need it. Once you get your mesh system working you start moving your points further away until you got your coverage. I bought 2 sets and have internet thru house and 75feet into the yard all the way around house.

For the setup, we recommend ensuring that your Google Wifi primary and secondary points are within a straight line of sight to get the best signal from each other. You may also want to check for possible interference since appliances like your microwave oven, or other equipment like a refrigerator are known to cause signal interference. If you're using a modem/router combo, set it in bridge mode and disable its Wi-Fi functionality to avoid double NAT issues. You may then hardwire your Google Wifi primary point to the modem using an Ethernet cable and connect the other Google Wifi secondary points to the Primary to create a mesh network.
