“i am considering purchasing this device but the issue holding me back I do NOT want a monthly contract, i want to pay-as-i-go and stay away from monthly fees. is this possible? If yes how is that done?”

All the plans listed here for this device appear to be "pay-as-you-go". The only differences I noted are the larger plans have expiration's on the using of what you purchased. The larger the plan, the longer you have it before it expires. Read the different PLAN details to get the finer details.
