You can plug it into any of your rj45 ports. It will then broadcast wifi but will use a different wifi name than your current router. So if you have an existing device hard plugged into your router, i.e. a tv, something wifi connected to the orbi will not be on the same network name.

Th coverage is amazing when setup correctly and won’t have you handcuffed to physical connections. However, while the device won’t be setup exactly as it should, plugging the Orbi into a port in your network should work fine provided there is internet access.

Depending on how you have your house wired, you should be able to plug into a port anywhere in your house to accomplish the necessary connection. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.That was my question. Bought it, deployed the router where I wanted it, which was not next to the modem. Plugged it in and it connected instantly with the modem. I had disabled the modem wifi as recommended. So yes, it should work through any port.
