Try other electrical outlets to see which color of lights you get. The quickstart booklet tells you what the lights mean, but the red just means your link is less than 50Mbps. I recommend the booklet for all information,

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I highly recommend that the device is plugged directly into the wall-jack vice power strip. I would also take a look at your configuration settings on the two modes the device can transfer. A previous (inferior) signal extender did that, however, I realized that the someone was stealing our WI-FI. Lastly, I suggest that passwords are recorded and changed periodically with any of the free WI-FI apps that list all devices connected to you WI-FI network. Good luck and God Bless

But I would say contact netgear support they offered to access your network router and insure your router/modem configuration is optimized. (Type of encryption, channel, frequency etc)
