The range is 600 feet

What happens is that you get additional range starting from new router. Problem will be if you do not get signal at all upstairs from original router and In that case you can put this router in between your farthest point and downstairs router and then connect to SSID of this netgear router for all devices upstairs. hope this helps

I believe that is the whole point. It's hard to say what the range will be because there are many factors that could affect that. The good thing is you have 14 days to test it and bring it back to Best Buy.
