This is a camera to add on to the system and requires a base station. Netgear sells a camera + base station combination. The base station connects directly to your wifi hub. The camera is synced to the base station so the station knows it's attached, and the camera transmits its images wirelessly to the base station. You create a Vuezone account on the Internet to be able to watch things through the camera, and the account is associated with the base station, not the camera itself. As you add more cameras to the system, you only have to sync the cameras. The Vuezone account talks to the base station and shows you images from all cameras that have been synced with that base station. It comes with two camera batteries that get installed simultaneously. I haven't had to replace the batteries, so I don't know battery life. We've been using it four months so far. I remember reading somewhere that it said "up to a year."
