There is no subscription required for basic 2 cameras. If you want more than 2 cameras along with additional memory on the cloud based platform that pictures/video or recorded too, there is a subscription fee. Google netgear viewzone for more details.

There is a basic free one with any system you buy that supports up to two cameras on one hub, computer and smartphone live viewing - no recording or snapshots. To save snapshopts and short video clips, there are currently two other plans, one at about $50 a year or $5 a month; and the other $100 a year or $10 a month, so it's cheaper if you can pay for a whole year at once. The $50 covers support up to 5 cameras on one hub, live view on your smartphone and computer. Video email alerts when motion is detected (if motion is available and turned on) Pan and zoom digitally, 250 MB of storage. The $100 covers everything as the $50 plan but includes support up to 15 cameras on three hubs and 500 MB of storage.
