Check the dvr output signal to that of the monitor it’s connected to. It could have been that the previous owners, may have not used the hard wired output and may have been accessing the dvr remotely via internet

Please verify there is an HDMI cable connected from the Night Owl DVR to the Monitor you would like to use to view the cameras. Also, verify the monitor is showing the correct input on which the DVR is connected to.
