yes, this does work with smartphones... key is to find the IP address of your connected internal router. Now a friend has an elaborate system of cameras with Hughes Net internet and they have trouble connecting using their cell phone. You will need to set up IP forwarding on your router, but there are a lot of notes about Night Owl setup that will help.
