- Answer This will work as a security system, as long as it it powered on. You can shut it down when not in use. It has nothing to do with cable TV.

- Answer The only way I have found to do this is to rearrange the cables from the cameras - swap them around where they plug into the back of the DVR.

- Answer The Night Owl DVR will work without an internet connection, it will be able to record video and you may view it through a monitor or a TV. - Answer Yes, you need an adapter for it. BNC to BNC adapter. It can only go so far, so don't try connecting more than 2. You can also buy a BNC cable that will be that long too. if you are going to the hassle of setting up cameras, you might as well utilize the 4 it comes with and get a longer cable to run for the one. You are going to have to buy that adapter anyways. Plus I am sure you can think of another place for that camera.

QuestionI have this system and it's complete garbage. You can't change any color settings other than Brightness and contrast, it doesn't record audio even if you have a cam that will. The firmware is trash.
