- Answer Depends on how far you are in relation to the subject. If your close and filling the frame with full body you might start to see some distortion. 35mm would be good to capture full subject or groups, with some scene included.

- Answer The 85mm f/3.5G Macro lens that is listed here is a DX lens. There is also an 85mm f/3.5 G Macro lens that is of the FX variety. This difference in lens type can make a significant change in price.

- Answer The D3100 lacks a built-in focus motor. In order to obtain autofocus with a NIKKOR lens, you would need to purchase a lens that has a focus motor. Nikon denotes this by the AF-S notation on the lens. The AF-S notation on the lens means that it contains Nikon's Silent Wave Autofocus Motor in the lens. Both of the lenses in this Macro Two Lens kit are AF-S type lenses. They are 100% compatible.

- Answer I did something similar. I purchased new 35mm and a 50mm lenses separately. Then, a couple of weeks later, I noticed the 35mm and 85mm kit on sale for a substantial savings. So I took the 35mm lens back to the store, where they refunded the original purchase price, which I in turn applied toward the purchase of the 35mm and 85mm kit.
